Description

Our B-grade beans are slightly drier and smaller than our premium beans. However, the flavours remain superior — being more concentrated. This makes them ideal to use for infusing in liquids. They are perfect for flavouring:

  • sauces
  • custards
  • homemade vanilla extract
  • soaps
  • candles.

They are also great for infusing sugar.

The longer you can allow the beans to infuse in the warm liquid, the more flavour you will extract.

These dark, oily vanilla beans are sourced directly from a farmers co-op in Indonesia. Families across various villages are supported to establish viable crops, following organic farming best-practices.  They each contribute their boutique crop to the co-op where the beans are fermented and prepared for sale.

Whilst these vanilla pods are organically grown, the administrative cost of becoming certified is not viable for these small-scale farmers.

The region produces a distinctive terroir, with flavour notes of dark chocolate, cinnamon, blackberry, black pepper, and liquorice.

Defining attributes of these vanilla pods include:

  • Moisture content of 18-25%
  • Length of 13+ cm
  • Average vanillan content of 2.2%
  • Average of 2.5g per pod
Keep these vanilla beans in their keep-fresh packet in a cool pantry, and they will store well beyond 2 years … if you can resist turning them into delicious desserts for that long.
